Newington Lights Festival

About Cohesion Plus

Cohesion Plus is a diverse-led arts organisation based in Gravesham, Kent who organise events around Kent with the aim of connecting communities through the arts, creating shared experiences with the intention of celebrating the diversity of Kent and promoting cohesion and understanding.

Festivals and events produced by Cohesion Plus range from Lunar New Year to Saint Georges Day to Mela in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells to lantern parades across North and West Kent. All of the events and activity at their heart are about celebrating the local community and what unites us as residents of Kent rather than what divides us. We focus much of our work in areas which have traditionally had low levels of engagement with the arts.

Come and join us in Newington to celebrate our first lights festival.

We are excited to announce that Newington will be holding it’s first Lights festival. This is a community-led lights festival featuring local schools and residents in the heart of Newington.

The festival will feature culturally diverse artists, including a new Orleans style band, a Samba group, Stilt walkers, African drumming a Brass band and Indian drummers.

The festival will include a Parade which will start at Newington Community Centre and end at Ramsgate Arts Primary School, culminating into fireworks and a community celebration.

In the build up to the parade we will be delivering a school and community based offer consisting ofculturally diverse music, dance and lantern making workshops to celebrating diversity.

The project is led by Starlings Support CIC, working in partnership with Newington Big Local, Cohesion Plus, Future Foundry and local schools.

We are immensely grateful for support from Arts Council England and Ramsgate Town Council.
